The Dictionnaire des imprimeurs lithographes project was conceived as part of the Labex CAP's reflection on the role of reproductions and illustrations in art history. To assess the influence of the new illustration processes on visual experience, it seemed useful to gain a better understanding of how lithographic printing spread in France and the scale and nature of its production.
The database set up with Labex CAP funding is hosted and regularly updated by the École des Chartes - PSL, in line with archive processing. It is searchable using several criteria and provides researchers with over 5,500 records relating to lithographic printers established in France in the 19th century.
