The Centre Jean-Mabillon
The Centre Jean-Mabillon (EA 3624) epitomizes the collective, interdisciplinary and international dimension of the historical and philological research activities taught at the Centre’s mother institution, the École nationale des chartes – PSL.
The Centre's name is a tribute to the work of the Benedictine monks of the Saint-Maur congregation, founded in 1621 and originally housed at the Saint-Germain-des-Prés Abbey. Jean Mabillon (1632-1707) joined the congregation in 1664 and subsequently wrote his De Re diplomatica, which would published in 1681.
Jean Mabillon (1632-1707). Gravure d'Alexis Loir, d'après une peinture de Claude-Guy Hallé, s. d.
The Centre Jean-Mabillon seeks to contribute to the advancement of historical knowledge by examining the sources used by historians, jurists and philologists, in particular written sources, their status and their uses, and by developing and producing high-quality, innovative working tools (text editions, databases), with particular reference to digital technologies.
